The content of gold and silver in materials is usually low, and separation and enrichment are required before determination. Even for pure gold, pure silver, or gold and silver alloys, when it is necessary to determine the impurities therein, separation is also required to eliminate the interference of a large amount of gold and silver matrix. Therefore, the purpose of separation and enrichment is mainly to:
(1) Improve the sensitivity of the determination;
(2) Eliminate the influence of a large number of coexisting elements.
Therefore, for the analysis and testing of gold and silver, it is very important to study its separation and enrichment methods.
The separation and enrichment methods of gold and silver can be divided into fire assay and wet methods. Fire assay, also known as fire assay method, is a classic separation and enrichment method. This method has the advantages of good enrichment effect, high accuracy, and wide adaptability, but it is troublesome to operate, labor-intensive, costly, easy to lead poisoning, and requires special equipment. Wet separation and enrichment of gold and silver is simple and fast, uses simple instruments and equipment, has a good enrichment effect, and its analysis results can also meet the needs of production and scientific research. In recent years, with the continuous emergence of new separation and enrichment methods, wet separation and enrichment of gold has gradually replaced fire assay in routine production. However, for arbitration bridges, the fire assay method is still the most reliable and classic method. The fire assay separation and enrichment method is discussed elsewhere in this book.
Commonly used wet separation and enrichment methods include: precipitation and coprecipitation separation and enrichment, solvent extraction, ion exchange, various adsorbent adsorption, extraction chromatography, liquid membrane separation, flotation separation, etc.
