Lithium metaborate It is a colorless triclinic crystal with a pearly luster. It is soluble in water and begins to decompose above 1200℃, generating lithium oxide. Its octahydrate is a colorless trigonal crystal with a melting point of 47℃. It can be prepared by melting stoichiometric lithium hydroxide or lithium carbonate with boric acid.
Applications
Lithium metaborate It is a flux for fusion preparation, suitable for sample preparation using wavelength dispersive XRF fluorescence spectrometry, AA atomic absorption, and ICP. Its main function is to mix with lithium tetraborate in a certain proportion to neutralize the acidity and alkalinity of different oxides, so that the sample can be melted to obtain the corresponding fused glass片 or solution. Examples of its applications are as follows:
1. Lithium metaborate Preparation of analytical solutions for ICP-AES and AAS.
The technical solution adopted is: First, the oxidative sample to be tested is melted and decomposed using lithium metaborate in a platinum or platinum-gold crucible. Then, the melt is directly poured into dilute acid. Finally, heating completely dissolves the melt of the oxidative sample in the dilute acid, thus obtaining the analytical solution. This method utilizes the strong melting and decomposition characteristics of lithium metaborate for oxides, as well as its good demolding effect in platinum or platinum-gold crucibles. By directly pouring the melt into dilute acid to quickly generate the analytical solution, the problem of dissolving acid-resistant oxides is effectively solved, and it is applicable to general oxides. The resulting analytical solution is suitable for inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry and atomic absorption spectrometry. The difference from the general borax alkaline fusion method is that a one-step pouring method can be used, simplifying the operation steps, reducing the probability of sample contamination, and enabling the determination of sodium elements.
2. Preparation of lithium tetrafluoroborate.
Lithium tetrafluoroborate is mainly used in lithium battery electrolytes and the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Its preparation method includes the following steps: Lithium carbonate, monohydrate lithium hydroxide, or anhydrous lithium hydroxide and boric acid, or boron oxide are mixed and calcined to obtain lithium metaborate. The lithium metaborate is pulverized to obtain lithium metaborate powder. The lithium metaborate powder is mixed with ammonium fluoride or ammonium hydrogen fluoride, and vacuum pressure negative pressure calcination reaction is carried out to obtain the lithium tetrafluoroborate product. This invention uses solid lithium source and solid boron source as raw materials to prepare lithium tetrafluoroborate. This process has the advantages of readily available raw materials, non-toxic and non-corrosive raw materials, high product quality, no side reactions, environmental protection, and high efficiency.
