According to the definition of physical chemistry, the melting point of a substance is the temperature at which the substance changes from a solid to a liquid state. In the field of organic chemistry, melting point determination is a basic means of identifying the nature of a substance and is also one of the important methods for determining purity, therefore, Melting Point and Melting Rate Tester It plays an important role in the chemical industry and pharmaceutical research, and is an essential instrument for the production of drugs, fragrances, dyes, and other organic crystalline substances.
Melting Point and Melting Rate Tester Operation
1. Preparation before use
Place the heating container (beaker) filled with heat transfer liquid on the heating furnace of the melting point and melting rate tester. Insert the required melting point thermometer into the small hole for fixing the thermometer, so that the bottom of the thermometer mercury bulb is above the heating surface (heater) by more than 2.5 cm. The liquid level of the heat transfer liquid is approximately at the immersion line of the thermometer.
2. Power on
Close the power switch and rotate the regulating transformer clockwise to heat the heat transfer liquid. Start Melting Point and Melting Rate Tester the "stirring" switch to start stirring the stirrer in the heat transfer liquid.
3. Determination operation
When the temperature of the heat transfer liquid rises to 10 ℃ below the lower limit of the specified melting point, rotate the regulating transformer to make the heating rate increase by 1.0~1.5 ℃ per minute (for samples that decompose simultaneously with melting, the heating rate is 2.5~3.0 ℃ per minute). After reaching the expected temperature of complete melting, cool down, repeat this 2~3 times to master the heating rate. Adjust the height of the thermometer so that the immersion line at the time of complete melting is exactly at the liquid level.
When the temperature of the heat transfer liquid rises to 10 ℃ below the lower limit of the specified melting point of the sample to be tested, immerse the capillary tube containing the sample in the heat transfer liquid so that it adheres to the thermometer. The contents of the capillary tube should be in the middle of the mercury bulb. Adjust the regulator to reach the specified heating rate and measure the melting point of the sample.
4. After the test is completed, turn off the power, turn the regulating transformer counterclockwise to 0. Remove the thermometer, wipe it dry with filter paper, put it away, and fill in the usage registration.
